The door tags and the poster designs I decided to go with for this terms theme.
For those of you not too familiar with it, the robot comes from the game Portal and so do most of the quotes. I ended up making some up because I was short and because I was talking to Alice while making them. So far 3 people asked me where the theme is from and 2 said they got it — more on this if it develops.

To be honest, I may have not entirely cleared the use of the name XD

It’s similar to the last terms design in the format, but stronger, harder, better!

Let’s see now. It’s 1am. Uhm, 1:11am actually, which almost means I get to make a wish under Sanya’s imaginary wish giving system (11:11am/11:11pm) that I still think only exists so she can complain that she missed it every morning and every night. I’m mostly writing this because I think if I tried to fall asleep right now I’d fail miserably for at least another 30 minutes and this seemed like a better use of my time.
This Monday I had a midterm. I have some observations to make about it.
I got to the building where it’s at about 10 minutes before official start of class time. I ran into Kate, another awesome Don, beforehand and we had a nice walk together. Which was almost interrupted by a train, which would have probably come close to hitting us if I sat on the railroad tracks for at least another 2 or 3 minutes. Silly trains, do they not know what they are doing? But I did watch a couple of girls dash towards and away from the tracks a couple of times as the train approached and they were rewarded with some fist shaking and ‘Are you stupid? No, seriously’ type comment from the train driver man, conductor (phew, vocab is hard).
Ok, so, midterm.
I’m sitting there in class.
Thinking I maybe should have taken a bit more time to study.
Just a bit, since so far the class material isn’t as scary and monstrous as I had imagined and was possibly lead on to believe it would be. I expect it to jump and claw and tear me into tiny shreds moments after I finish this post and lie down in bed. The teacher had mentioned that we will wait until 7:10 to start. By 5 to 7:00 everyone is in class and seated. At 7:00 we have to put away all of our notes. It’s question period time.
7:02, I am a monkey.
7:02:10, I can’t remember what I was doing.
7:03, awkward.
7:03:29.999999, someone asks if they can use a pencil. If I ever become a teacher I’m answering with a ‘No’ and watching them struggle to comprehend the consequences of my answer.
7:04, we get out exam paper.
At least 6 people in the class decide to just read through it even though we shouldn’t.
A girl in my row, but across the room, just casually starts to write the midterm.
7:04:30, I am a monkey.
7:05, the teacher asks if we have anymore questions.
7:05:30, the teacher comments next time we will start at 7:05. The girl flips over the first page of the exam. My handy front page tells me there are only 10 pages in total, including the title page.
7:07, the teacher makes a joke. I feel like some cells in my brain die. I probably forget a formula.
7:09, that girl is probably half done her test by now.
7:10, I’m pretty sure I may as well have been asleep.
7:10, I am a monkey.
7:12, the teacher uses the words student, Waterloo, nerd, geek, Queen and derivate in the same paragraph of a problem. Bravo professor, bravo. I lose whatever remaining sense of concentration I had left for this thing.
8:something before 10 after. I’m done. I made some stuff up on question 5 out of 5, because frankly, for 3 out of it’s 5 parts I had no idea what to write because I didn’t know part 3 and part 4 and 5 required me to. I didn’t want to waste the TAs time by making up some ludicrous explanation and expecting him to read 3 paragraphs of utter bs which would garner me half marks. I should have probably written I’m sorry instead.
My midterm adventure ends.
I have lots of Don stories. That I can’t really place here for all those reasons. Lots are great, lots are interesting, lots are new, some are bad. As a whole, I’m enjoying the experience thus far. It also happens to be Don evaluation time. A great time during which we all try our best to lure our residents with candy, food, free food, prizes, tricks, traps, promises of riches, and anything and everything that may convince them to go online and fill out a 10 minute survey. I had ice cream today, and a ruffle for prizes. Tomorrow, I will have more ice cream and a pizza dinner. I have at least 9 LITRES of ice cream remaining. It’s hoboing itself in my fridge and not paying me any rent. It beat up the local frozen food residents that may have resided there before and it’s not letting any new ones move in. Alice, Sanya, Adam, Adam, Adam, Adam(s), Julian, Nitish, Mike, Greg, Sharon residents, Dons, strangers, people that live in a van down by the river. Come evict some of the mean ice cream!
There. I think I’ll finish at that for now. That’s payback for not making the last one longer.

Oh, hi there!
Let’s see, what should I update you on. Well, let’s try to do it on some of the less mundane details.
I was feeling pretty sick for most of last week. I guess it doesn’t really go off well when you feel sick on Friday and then play 3 games of soccer in 3 days and generally spend more energy in one weekend then I remember spending in a long time. So yeah, this week I was like rawr, rawr, I’m a zombie >.< Hopefully that’s over and done with, because that always sucks.
How is donning going? GREAT! I could describe this and that in detail, but if you ever talk to me in person, just ask, it’s rather more fun to talk about it that way. I did have a slight disappointment because of donning today, but I guess you can’t win them all (but it would be nice to).
I wanted to just say thanks to a lot of people. No specific names. This time, there are literally, more to mention then I want to list off. I’d miss some, and it wouldn’t be fair. So just thanks in general. Thanks to other dons who’ve been helping me out with this and that. Thanks to friends. Thanks to Adam, Adam and Alice. Thanks again to Alice. Crap, I made a short list.
If you’re wondering about the title of the post. That’s easy! Had another soccer game today. We won. Roger, one of the guys I know from my 1st year in res got a red card. It was kinda amusing and slightly undeserved, but I guess they just give them out more liberally in the for fun league. The point that made it more memorable is that the guy from the other team who he got it over (he also got a yellow card) ended up falling and trying to fake some injury less then a minute later. Within seconds of that, one of his own teammates, kicked the ball and hit him pretty much in the face. I know it might be wrong to laugh, but he soooo had it coming, so I turned around and may have laughed for a sec. He wasn’t hurt, which is good, but it was amusing.
It’s 1:30am, I’m listening to the Eels (check them out!) — the current song happens to be a cover — “Like a river flows; Surely to the sea; Some things were meant to be”. There are a bunch of other great songs too though. “I Need Some Sleep” from the Shrek soundtrack == love.
I think that’s all for now. I know I just thought of something else, but it was quickly forgot.
Sayonara!
