There probably won’t be many updates for a while yet, sorry.

Class Selection : (

19/06/2007

I meant to take a picture, but by the time I thought of it the page had already timed out. I had my class selection appointment today — which we get by some method I’ve not yet deduced — and so far the results are looking awesome, out of the 4 classes I definitely had picked out 3 of them did not want to get added because they were full. I haven’t come up with a 5th one yet, but so far I’m on a nice streak here with a good chance that 80% of the classes I wanted will require me to seek out those professors and get them to sing more forms :(

Whatever

17/06/2007

What do you write about when you barely even want to talk? That’s a really good question, one that I’m not about to provide some great and revealing answer to, since I don’t know.
What’s new? Everything is new, it’s just possibly not the most exciting thing ever, but it’s new anyway. I’ve got the results back from essentially 3 classes so far up to now, the marks are over 80 in all of them, so that’s good. I have a midterm in Japanese coming up this Wednesday, I think I’ll be ready as I’ve finally come to some reasonable agreement with the Hiragana alphabet, we at least get along now. This class requires a significant amount of memorization, more so then all of my other classes combined, but it’s still enjoyable — now I just need to concentrate on getting the mark.

My class selection appointment for fall is once again towards the end of the selection period, I’ve put a schedule together, but chances are good that a good number of classes I want will be full and I’ll have to hope to get overrides signed again to get into them. One of these semesters it would really be nice to have my appointments earlier.

I’ve been meaning to mention how sometimes I notice some fun quotes in the “quotes” section of my themed Google “desktop”. It certainly makes it feel more fun and lively, and in a weird sort of way, since it’s darker then the pure google white, I’m actually saving energy o.O So here’s a quote and the theme I’m using… it changes depending on what time it is outside.
My iGoogle
Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it — Mahatma Gandhi

Sharon is back from Japan, which is great, and I even got a Pokemon book to colour. I’ll probably get to that eventually… or maybe use it as the basis for the door name tags for the students I’ll be looking over as a don in fall and winter.

Back to this essay, summarizing an argument from a chapter where the author filled 3/4 of the space with quotes from other material… meh.

Don’t fuck with my dinosaurs

7/06/2007

Ok, so, at some point it does become insane:

A new museum in Petersburg, Kentucky greets visitors with a 20ft tall tumbling waterfall and at its base, mannequins of frolicking children play amongst dinosaurs. The Creation Museum, which cost $25 million to build, is home to many unusual sites: a diorama of ancient people overshadowed by a towering T. rex, Adam and Eve swimming in a river with giant reptiles, and even a scale model of Noah’s Ark.

It seems Noah solved the problem of fitting dinosaurs into his vessel by only taking baby dinosaurs. Indeed, the ark has a detailed display of many animals happily boarding the boat: dinosaurs cavort with giraffes, penguins, hippos, and bears.

Museum guides tell visitors that before Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise all of the dinosaurs were peaceful plant-eaters.

In Genesis 1:30 God gives ‘green herb’ to every creature to eat and so there were no predators. When a curious museum visitor asks, why exactly T. rex had six-inch long serrated teeth, the guides go on to explain that T. rex used his big teeth to open coconuts. Apparently it was only after Adam and Eve sinned and were cast out of paradise that the dinosaurs started to eat flesh.

Opening coconuts? I would, more then anything, like to believe that they are not being serious — but unfortunately they absolutely are. Sure I can totally give the benefit of the doubt to most mainstream religious theories, even though for the most part I think to push them as 100% truths is ludicrous. But what I can’t accept is claims like these that are actually for some reason supported by powerful people. This goes right along with the whole intelligent design vs evolution debate, by the way, it’s not intelligent design (nice use of scientific sounding words) it’s religion.

My best advice for this group: you better hope those dinosaurs don’t come back, I’m pretty sure T-Rex’s don’t eat coconuts.

New Theme

5/06/2007

I don’t like the look of vanilla windows. So, I usually theme it courtesy of StyleXP. I’ve had a minimalistic darker theme for the longest time now, and I finally decided to get something different with a happier mood for the summer. After some searching of various sites, including DeviantART, I came accross something I really enjoyed. It’s still simplistic, but it’s based on bright colours and includes some glass highlights on elements.

In the process I also founda really fun login screen and then some “photoshop” (don’t sue me Adobe, it’s a verb!) work later I got my background to match. Since I know pictures will make more sense anyway, here we are:

Of Birds and Men

5/06/2007

Just got back from writing a midterm in a statistics class, yeah, for those who know my school work — you got that right, I took stats in a different faculty. I feel like it actually went really well, which makes me feel better about the fact that I somehow forgot to include an entire page on my last assignment in that class so I got 85% instead of higher, and I kinda like higher in these new courses where we’re not expected to fail less then other.

I have another one tomorrow and I think I’ll be up most of tonight just getting things finalised for that and some other school projects that I need to take care of. Looks like I have another soccer game this Thursday, we’re playing the same team we played in our first game, as always really looking forward to it. Maybe more so because I think we can beat them if we can just get a full team of players to show up, also there’s this really annoying guy on their team who I’d really love to maybe trip or something XD

I turned down an offer to get a Nintendo Wii, yeah crazy I know, but I really don’t have a spot or the time for it right now. Well, I can probably find the time, but it’s summer and just doesn’t seem as appealing at the moment, plus I’m still really enjoying Puzzle Quest on my DS. Thanks though Andrew!
